The Past Does Not Equal the Future

Tony Robbins taught me this.

Just because “that’s the way things have always been” does not necessarily mean that’s they way they have to continue to be.

As another of my mentors, Jim Rohn, said, “If you don’t like things the way they are, change them. You’re not a tree.” (Meaning you’re not stuck, immobile, into the ground.)

Yes, your past has created some momentum, but even an ocean liner (which can weigh 70,000 tons) can change course. It may not be fast. It may not be easy, but it can be done.

And you’re not as big as an ocean liner, are you?

So when you get feeling like you’re doomed to keep putting up with the same old [stuff] in your life forever, remind yourself that the past does not equal the future.
